Rothesay (grid reference NS087645)
is the only town on the Isle
of Bute and lies just off
the west coast of Scotland. Separating these two islands
Firth of Clyde. The Isle of Bute is within close proximity
of a number of other Scottish islands including Arran and
Cumbrae.
Rothesay is less than two hours from
the City of Glasgow. There are two possible routes to the
island, the first being the scenic drive through Loch Lomond
and Loch Fyne, taking the five minute ferry journey from
Colintraive to Rhubodach on Bute.
The main route to the island is by ferry from Wemyss
Bay to Rothesay Harbour which takes thirty minutes
approximately.
Wemyss Bay can be accessed by road or rail, taking approximately
forty-five minutes from Glasgow City Centre.
If traveling by the air, the local airports are Glasgow
International and Glasgow Prestwick Airport.
The Esplanade Hotel is situated prominently behind Rothesay
Harbour.
